Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - Wed, Jun 29, 2022
There was so much potential with this film and they squandered it.
Sorry, Benny. 2 out of 4 stars.
The new Dr. Strange film is the first Marvel film I haven’t been enamored with. I had high hopes, as I love Benedict Cumberbatch as Strange… he is PERFECT. And I love Wong, and Wanda.
But, Wanda is the villain of this film, which is a shame. I know the Scarlet Witch was a vilain in the comics, but I was hoping that after the TV show, they would take her in a different direction.
And, for who knows whatever reason, the lynchpin of the story is a cheesy, boring, Mary Sue of a character named “America Chavez.” Conveniently, she can open portals to other universes in the multi-verse… and her portals are STAR SHAPED and GLITTERY LIKE FIREWORKS. OOOOOH.
How many demographics can we target all in one character so we can optimize our money grubbing?
Never heard of her before I played the Marvel Strike Force mobile game a few years ago, and haven’t heard of her since. She can go in the comics trash bin along with all of the Inhumans, U.S. Agent, and that shit stain of a crossover series Secret Empire which turned Captain America into a HYDRA sleeper agent. Yeah.
There are so many actual GOOD characters in the Marvel universe and they had to choose one with almost zero creativity. On top of that, they brought over Black Bolt from Inhumans, which is another stupid character. Apparently, he can annihilate planets with his voice. Sooo… what happens when he sneezes or snores? At least this character has some history in the greater comicsverse, but it’s still just another stupid power and he’s an Inhuman.
It was nice to see an actual Captain Carter in the flesh, as well as the return of Patrick Stewart as Professor X. The other twists on the Illuminati members were pretty cool, too. So, it wasn’t all bad.
There was so much potential with this film and they squandered it.
